Groundhog Day

February 2nd

{s} I have three favorite holidays and while I won't get into details about all of them right now, this post is dedicated to my love for Groundhog Day.  I think it all started when I worked at a video store in high school; I was able to bring home one free VHS (showing my age here) per night and around February 2nd my movie-of-choice was always Groundhog Day.  My family and I would belly-laugh, recite our favorite lines (“Don’t drive angry”) and eagerly await for Ned Ryerson to make his appearance or Phil Connors to rob the bank.  Even as my brother and I left the nest and started our own families, this day has continued to unite our family, expanding to our spouses and children.  Sometimes we have gathered together to watch the, now DVD, version and answer trivia questions and other times we simply watch the flick in our own homes, exchanging text messages full of quotes and memes.

It is a holiday!

By definition holiday is a “day fixed by law or custom on which ordinary business is suspend in commemoration of some event or in honor of some person.”  In my family February 2nd is a holiday – a customary day set aside to laugh, honor Punxsutawney Phil and more importantly, reflect on cherished memories of growing up in a family full of  love. I know that even if my parents, brother and I cannot spend the day together, we are all celebrating this day as one.

Facebook post from 2014 – (and yes, I typically call it Groundhog’s Day…because it really is his day)

All we want for Christmas is...

{s} Celebrating the holidays is always full of family and traditions.  We knew this year would be different after the sudden passing of Mike's niece, Allie. Even though this was a difficult time, it was important to cherish our family moments together and reflect on happy memories.

Our festivities began on December 22nd when we hosted the annual White Elephant Gift Party with Mike’s family.  With the family arriving later that evening, I had plenty of time to clean up the house and bake cookies as well as prepare bacon-chicken roll-ups ('cuz I am not a fan of the traditional sausage sandwiches they all swoon over).

{m} Hold up.  Just to clarify, the sausage sandwiches are...AMAZING!  They were my mom's secret recipe that my family doesn't just swoon over--they would kill for.  Ok, now back to her perspective...

2019 - New Year, New Blog!

I’m not one who likes to make New Year’s Resolutions…I find it cliché, kind of like roses on Valentine’s Day.  However, I’m all about setting goals; something that can and should be done any time of the year.  So, on this new day in a new year, Mike and I have decided to put into action a goal we’ve both shared – writing a blog.

I’ve considered blogging off and on for a while; there have been many times throughout my adult life where my father would encourage me to write a particular story down so the humoristic details of the event could be remembered.  And, in the course of our marriage, Mike and I are constantly baffled at the absurd situation we find ourselves in.

The writer (and sarcasm) in both of us helped to persuade us into capturing our crazy stories, adventures and Murphy’s Law mishaps into a blog.  But – we didn’t want to do things in a traditional manner, so our stories will be told from a duel perspective; Mike {m} and Sarah {s}.

And while not every story will be butterflies and rainbows, we seek to find the bright side out of every misfortune, frustration or chaos.  That said, buckle up ladies and gentlemen, it’s going to be AllBrighty!
